The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.

It might not have been at the equivalent scale as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.

“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a long and happy life away from worry.”

The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The pig, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people yelling “six-seven” – originating from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The trend became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.

“It represents the essence of Miami: joyful, varied, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Every time, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
