The Latest Casual Game Mode Ignites Intense Debates Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a new game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but features several notable adjustments:
- Every squad has just 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Actions performed by real players grant full XP, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
- Just a pair of locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Elements like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.
So essentially, the playlist delivers on its title: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it gives additional choices for players seeking different ways to enjoy the title. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, many Battlefield 6 fans are mad.
Community Reactions: Anger to Support
"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," while another details everything they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Criticisms and Community Feedback
All that said, players have constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase queue times even longer for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the community compromising halfway, as per a Reddit comment. Another labels this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
If the development team has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
