The Gruesome Animated Film Ending That Lingers Viewers
Among every adult-oriented cartoon movies I have personally viewed, nothing has lingered in my mind as much as the terror-laced ending of a graphically gory and deeply subversive film from 2022 Unicorn Wars.
In 2015’s, this Spain-based filmmaker crafted a grim, melancholy and often savage universe with several minor , forlorn glimmers of hope.
Although The Unicorn Wars appears as it stemmed from a desire to expand the medium further, the director explained that it was actually a try to communicate a universal, cross-cultural theme about “the common origin of each battle.”
That message is communicated by means of a group of colorful pastel bears , obviously modeled after a famous line of lovable characters.
Growing up in a society centered on warmongering and the war machine, many of the bears are obsessed with slaughtering the mythical beasts, due to a religious scripture that tells them they used to be masters of the woods, until the unicorns forced them out.
A few did not entirely fallen for the brainwashing, , choose to try out drugs and engage sexually in the woods.
In contrast to their gentle counterparts, these vivid animals show genitals , definite libidos.
For one particularly cruel, pessimistic creature, the character Bluey, the battle with unicorns turns into a route to control — and particularly to supremacy over his more tender, more compassionate sibling Tubby.
The character acts as a tormentor , an obvious sociopath , and as terror takes over his group and takes his teammates individually, he grabs more and more control for himself, in increasingly bloody, harmful methods.
At the same time, the unicorns are experiencing their own nightmare, in the form of a spreading, harmful creature in their forest.
“Initially, it feels like a humorous movie,” the director stated. “However it becomes a more serious and sad film. And by the end, it’s a horror film.”
Unicorn Wars begins feeling a bit like one of the more whimsical features from a legendary animator, that uncover a wicked pleasure in allowing drawn beings swear, engage in violence, or engage sexually.
Afterward it becomes something more like a more grim work by that same director, with increasingly graphic violence and a noticeable connection to genuine tragedy of battle.
By the end, it is an outright extreme drama bloodbath.
The terror which makes the film a perfect Halloween movie starts well before than indicated.
Unicorn Wars is suited for the most dedicated gorehounds, for lovers of intense movies who wish to view a film they’ve never viewed until now, and are able to withstand a narrative that pulls absolutely no punches.
Watch it with the lights off free from interruptions, and the conclusion will dig deep within you and take up residence there.
