The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film debuted, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
The preview shows Bonnie ā who received the toy collection when he grew up ā getting a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
