Followers Urge Detainment of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate followers of the pop star are demanding that a individual who leaped a barricade and grabbed the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared video shows the Australian man pushing past media personnel and rushing toward Grande while the actors proceeded down a yellow carpet accompanied by onlookers.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the surprised star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the event by guards.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "free after being arrested", though legal records showed that he was scheduled to appear on the next day. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
Pattern of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Troll Most Hated", has crashed a performance. His Instagram feed contains videos of him disturbing other high-profile occasions, including rushing the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney performance in recently and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the city last winter.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," wrote an Instagram user, in a message to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his act.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" a different Instagram user wrote.
Followers Show Disapproval Over Grande's Past Trauma
Many supporters blamed Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had revealed experiencing PTSD after a devastating incident at the end of her May 2017 show in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming many.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" commented a further comment on Instagram.
Several fans also faulted event staff at the gathering for not being vigilant enough; while others called for digital services to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Response and Premiere Information
In clips circulating online, Grande appeared shocked when she was grabbed by the man. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted reassuring her while Mr Wen was removed by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the rest of the event continued without further issues.
Numerous of fans had congregated in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific premiere in a Singapore shopping center, including a number who had queued for as long as a significant duration before it began.
The motion picture, to be released on 21 November, is the second of a two-film interpretation of the popular Broadway and West End production Wicked, which focuses on the surprising relationship between two contrasting characters.
The musical itself is a derivative of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a light pink glittering gown at the gathering while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown decorated with roses.
They were alongside co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the top-earning motion picture of last year in the UK, and scored a dozen award recognitions, securing several for best costume and set decoration.
