Catherine's Annual Christmas Service of Carols Pays Tribute to Charity Helpers

Her Royal Highness has organised her annual Christmas carol concert at the iconic London venue, with guests including dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have supported their local areas.

The large audience will enjoy a blend of carols, music and readings from performers including award-winning actors.

Focusing on Kindness and Compassion

The focus of the concert, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

In the audience are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose child passed away from a brain cancer, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any expectation or recognition, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," Her Royal Highness stated in a message before the concert.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The princess has been making her own measured re-emergence to public life subsequent to her illness and medical care, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey can listen to budding artists supported by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the Duchess of Kent to increase availability of music lessons.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been assisted by the trust, with grants helping towards equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "awesome" to be performing at the evening's event.

"Music can be very expensive," she stated. She is now a student at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to hone their artistic talents.

A Family Affair

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Attending the service will be representatives of different generations.

That will include Saphia Turner, aged nine, winner of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for local food charities.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Among the musical performers will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the icing on the cake for us."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be broadcast on television on December 24th.
