Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was expected for questions to be asked about his position following another convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in 12 matches, marking the team's worst streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got a lot of backing from management,” Slot remarked.
“It's important to change things and get a victory obviously but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He added, “I accept my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to expand on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “In the normal discussions I sense the belief. However I've not talked to them since this game yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Response
Slot highlighted known shortcomings from his team in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones said.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a period of this nature with performances this poor.”
Jones stated, “But we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the top club in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and it needs to change.”
