Antony Price, Famed for Creating Looks for David Bowie and Duran Duran, Dies at 80.
Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect behind many legendary styles associated with artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.
His reputation was built on his defined forms and theatrical styles, such as the pastel suits that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message on social media."
His passing follows just weeks after he presented his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.
A Lasting Legacy
A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to attend the prestigious Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he started his work in menswear at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show opened with outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price specifically designed for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A long-time collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His signature ability to blend menswear and womenswear along with his technical proficiency in designing sculptural silhouettes made him a "true original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.
During the nineties, he commenced designing outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included various looks for her tour of the United States following her marriage.
Following a profession lasting half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London last month in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.
